Recipe Ideas For Quick And Easy Lunches For The Novice Cook

Spottt

Starting with these easy lunch ideas is a very good way for the novice cook to get going. Once you've mastered these easy ideas, moving to more complicated recipes will not be a problem.

Cooking is not the favorite pastime of everybody. Lots of people just do not consider learning to cook a high priority, but, you have to eat! The bad end result of this is that people rely on convenience food and fast food with the obvious health consequences. Preparing healthy meals, on the other hand, will not be as difficult as it may seem.

I think that lunch time is the one meal where we all tend to eat a lot of bad food. All the convenience foods and fast foods contain lots of fat, lots of refined carbohydrates and very little nutritious ingredient. The sad thing is, it does not take an expert cook to prepare healthy and tasty lunches. With a little effort and a few good recipe ideas tasty nutritious lunches can be prepared by anyone.

Here are a few quick and easy recipe ideas:

1. Lettuce wraps.

Making lettuce wraps is an easy way of teaching your kids, and the other family members, that lettuce is far more versatile than we may normally think. In summer the fillings can be cold and in winter the fillings can be hot. The fillings can be prepared ahead of time and then at lunch time it is quick and easy to make the wrap. To make the wraps a little more filling, ad a little rice or couscous to all your fillings.

i. Some ideas for tasty fillings:

a. Cold fillings:

  • A can of tuna drained, a mashed banana and a little mayonnaise all mixed together.
  • Your traditional tuna and corn filling, now used for the lettuce instead of a sandwich.
  • Chopped up leftover meat with tomatoes, cucumbers and a little onion moistened with sweet chili sauce.
  • Grated vegetables and cheese moistened with any sauce of your choice.
  • A banana rolled in lemon juice with a little curried mayonnaise

b. Hot fillings:

  • Creamed spinach with cheese
  • Fried bacon bits with leftover potatoes and a banana.
  • Any combination of leftover meat and vegetables moistened with a little mayonnaise, a pinch of curry and a little chili.
  • A combination of stir fried vegetables such as zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, onion, sweet peppers, thinly sliced cucumbers, chopped brinjals and chopped tomatoes.

2. Sandwiches:

Try sandwiches with different breads. Believe it or not, my children love trying new things. It's a rare trait for which I am extremely grateful. Believe me I understand all too well how fortunate I am. My youngest however, has a little difficulty with thick or crusty bread. Her favorite sandwich choice has become Hawaiian sweet rolls. We put the meat, cheese, mustard, and pickle in her roll as if it was a bun and she's thrilled.

Other great ideas include hollowing out crusty rolls and filling them with roast beef and cheddar. You can broil this in your oven for a few minutes for a rare sandwich treat. The cooking part is very minimal and you do not have to have in depth knowledge of anything to prepare or enjoy these simple treats. Other great bread ideas include croissants with ham and cheese or chicken salad, taco pitas (another great favorite in our household), and paninis (this works really well if you have a George Foreman grill or a panini press).

These are only a few easy recipes to get you going. As you get more accomplished you’ll think of your own fun combinations to make great sandwiches or wraps. Use a wide variety of breads and for the wraps use not only the lettuce or tortillas but also make wraps with thinly sliced cold meats. With practice you’ll soon be creating your own tasty recipes for fun lunch dishes.

Tasty meals fast, with these quick and easy recipe ideas.
