Buttered and rolled bread:
- To butter and roll bread, cut off the crust of a loaf of fresh bread.
- Spread a thin layer of creamed butter on one end of the loaf.
- Cut off this buttered end in as thin a slice as possible.
- Roll this slice having the buttered side inward and lay it on a serviette. Continue buttering and making the rolls until you have a sufficient quantity.
- Draw the serviette firmly around the rolled bread and then wrap it in a slightly moist serviette and put it in a cold place until needed.
Cold Meat Samdwiches:
Put meat through a mincing machine and moisten with mayonnaise. Use it as above with the butter.
White And Brown Bread Sandwiches:
- Make a filling of walnuts chopped fine and mixed with cream cheese and French dressing to make a spread.
- Place four slices white and brown bread, arranged alternately on on top of another with filling between the slices and press down firmly.
- Cut through perpendicularly, with narrow slices showing the alternate layers of white and brown bread.
- These are especially good and may be varied with different fillings as desired.
Entertaining Ideas For Lunch
Inviting friends for an informal lunch is a very good way of entertaining. Especially suitable for weekends. There are many advantages to entertaining for lunch. Lunch time entertaining is far more casual and even guests with busy schedules can normally find an open Saturday or Sunday afternoon for a lunch appointment. It is also very convenient to entertain friends and family with small children at lunch as it avoids the problem of children getting tired and your guests having to rush home to put the kids to bed. Lunchtime entertaining is also more casual and it leaves you with lots of quick and easy ways of entertaining. Here are a few tips and pointers to help you.
Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:
1. Keep the food light, but interesting:
It is normally a good idea to keep the food much lighter than is normal with a formal dinner. Good food choices include sandwiches, various salads or even just an assortment of fun appetizers. Make the food interesting by switching up ingredients. For example, use tortillas to turn regular ham and cheese sandwiches into fancy wraps or grab some pita bread and fill it with fresh veggies, lettuce and chicken salad.
2. Give your lunch party a theme.
Are you ready to have a little fun with the food and decorations for your lunch party? Pick a theme and run with it. You can create a great party by using themes like a spring or summer party, a region like a beach or Italian luncheon, or even an era (just think of all the fun you can have with a 60’s hippy party, especially in summer outdoors with lots of flowers and tie-dyed table clothes, or think of a Victorian lunch or a funky 70’s party). Having a theme will make picking what to serve and how to decorate the table and surrounding areas easier for you and lots of fun for your guests.
3. Alcohol or no alcohol?
It’s really up to you, whether or not you want to serve a little drink at your lunch party. If you do, keep the amounts small and stay away from heavy wines or hard liquors. Instead, consider serving a light white wine or a refreshing beer. As always, pair your drinks with the food you are preparing. A tasty and light punch made of dry sparkling wine and fruit juice can be a very tasty and low alcohol option that still has the feeling of festivity.
It is of course also perfectly acceptable to keep the party “dry”. Mineral water with a little lemon is a great non-alcoholic option, as are cold teas, sodas, lemonade and assorted fruit juices. For a little fun, prepare some virgin cocktails like frozen daiquiris or margaritas. Don’t forget about your little guests, though. Small bottles of soda or juice boxes are always a big hit for the kids.
I encourage you to give lunch entertaining a try. I’m sure both you and your guests will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and change of pace. Before you know it, you’ll be invited to the next “Lunch Party.”
I think that by now you get the idea that there is much more to lunch time entertaining than just a barbecue. There is nothing wrong with a barbecue, but it is fun to try something else instead.
Enjoy your lunch entertaining.
